Somewhere at the bottom of Bideford Bay lies a ship which has acquired near-legendary status. There may seem to be little exceptional about one more wreck among so many in Westcountry waters, from sailing ships to passenger liners, but the stories surrounding the Salcombe-built Ceres have not slackened with the passage of time. If anything, they have grown richer. For - up until her sinking - the ketch had enjoyed such a charmed life that she had defied everything that either the elements or the turbulence of history could throw at her. links of london charms The Ceres already had an impressive record: she had lost not a single crewman to drowning in her 125 years of service. She was also understood to be the oldest sea-going vessel afloat until her sinking on a November evening in 1936. That event excited many newspaper articles, and even inspired a poem in February 1937, by Cicely Fox Smith, an English poet primarily writing on nautical themes. The final lines read: "For she'll lie there and she'll moulder as any old ship might desire And hear the vessels passing by, and dream about the past, And the great old times in Devon, where they built her once to last." It was a fitting epitaph for a vessel that began life transporting military stores from Britain to Spain during the peninsula campaign of the Napoleonic war, and was still sailing when Hitler remilitarised the Rhineland and placed all of Europe on a war footing. The Ceres operated primarily between South Wales to Bude, and is estimated to have carried more than 250,000 tonnes of cargo during her life. She first went from Salcombe to Bude in 1826, and crossed the Bay of Biscay to Spain several times for cargoes of fruit and nuts. book printing She was then smack-rigged and registered 34 tonnes, or 54 tonnes with cargo. Even in her own lifetime, she had gained an enviable reputation, as a 1928 article in the journal Sea Breezes described: "There seems to be no doubt that the Ceres is the oldest sailing vessel still in active service and that, after 117 years of strenuous work, she is still in perfect condition, and good for many more years, speaks equally well for her builder and owner." The Ceres was first owned in Bude by a Captain Knowles, who, in 1830, brought in and discharged at Bude 20 cargoes of coal from Wales. In 1842, Captain W Lewis bought her. The article continues: "In 1852, she was bought by Captain Petherick's father and has been owned by the family ever since. In 1866, Captain W W Petherick took over the command of the little vessel and found that she wanted dry docking for repairs. While in dry dock, Capt Petherick was persuaded to have her lengthened, which he did. Fifteen feet was put in her amidships. She was ketch- rigged, registered 52 tonnes and carried 85 tonnes. "Captain Petherick then took her in the general coasting trade. She carried many cargoes of barley for the whisky distilleries from Cornwall to the Western Islands of Scotland, Campbeltown, Ardrossan, Troon, Ayr and visited near every port in Ireland from Londonderry in the north to 'south about' to Limerick in the west. From there it was generally oats to the English Channel ports, the Channel Islands, London etc." Capt Petherick's own words tell of the Ceres' seaworthiness: "I have weathered out many storms and hurricanes in her and she was always all there. Everyone who went in her considered her to be one of the best sea boats afloat Other articles: http://www.taiandaily.com/Send-items-to-troops.htmlhttp://www.cnynpec.com/Blog/View/?871

Byline: Richard Bath Ardanaiseig is a charming retreat with a stunning lochside setting - but the food is not so inspiring NESTLED on the shores of Loch Awe, Ardanaiseig is one of those picture-perfect country houses that could only be in Scotland. Yet if this rambling granite mansion looks like the epitome of high life on the west coast, it wasn't always so. In fact, 11 years ago the house was on the verge of becoming a ruin. Almost derelict, it was put up for sale, and that's when Bennie Gray entered the house's life. A well-known London antiques dealer, Gray was passing by chance and heard that Ardanaiseig was for sale. Smitten, he decided there and then to buy it. makeup brush That night, he was eating out with his daughter, and when he told her of his determination to buy the house she insisted he consult her psychic before putting in an offer. Slightly bemused, Gray nevertheless agreed to go and see the mystic the next morning. He was told that it was his destiny to own the house, but that he should go ahead and offer a far lower figure than he had envisaged. Cajoled by his daughter, he did so, and to his amazement it turned out to be the highest offer by just a few pounds. The intervening years have seen a transformation in the fortunes of Ardanaiseig. Outside it still looks a little forbidding, but inside it has been completely restored to its former glory. Gray has overseen the restoration, regularly shuttling up from London with van-loads of antiques, and he has also brought on board Glasgow-based theatre set designer Finlay McLay, who completely revamps the place every two years. It's a combination of talents that accounts for the presence of endless ancient curios and knick-knacks, plus a strong colour scheme that sees some rooms in rich reds and others in vibrant blues. If that sounds embroidered patches a little gaudy, then it's not: with its rambling gardens, billiard room, lochside location and new boathouse by the water, the whole place has a stately yet homely feel that gives you a sense of how the Victorians who built it would have lived. However, given how wonderful the surroundings are, and how loudly friends in the area have praised the quality of the food at the hotel, we were a little surprised at the way our meal turned out. It certainly started well, with a tantalisingly original, palate-tingling amuse bouche that consisted of a layer of liquidised pear underneath what tasted like a layer of Roquefort with crame frache, all rounded off with a topping of ground walnut biscuit. But if that was a sumptuous start, we were quickly brought back down to earth by an insipid velout de courgette that was lacking in flavour and altogether too watery. This was the low point of a meal that was brought back on track by a sizeable helping of nicely dry, smoked trout from the nearby Inverawe smokery. Even that, though, was undermined by a stack of bog-standard potato salad that would have been ordinary in the most run-of-the-mill coach party destinations, but which looked horribly out of place in a five-star boutique hotel. Our pre-main palate-cleanser was an interesting coffee sorbet with little doughnuts, which was up to the quality of the amuse bouche (unless you're Vicky, who hates coffee in all its forms), but we couldn't decide what to make of the main course, which was duck breast wrapped in Parma ham with confit pat and date sauce. The main problem was that the ham overwhelmed the duck and pat to the point Other articles: http://www.cnyn.com.cn/Blog/View/?557http://bobsvideobarn.com/blog/view/id_1009/title_TALL-SHIPS-ARE-HERE/

Lori Shoemaker moved to Boston from Los Angeles in 2007, and chose to live in Beacon Hill primarily makeup brushes for its historic charm and local parks. Admittedly, the South Russell Street resident says, Beacon Hill's proximity to Mass General Hospital, where she works as a post doctoral researcher in the Center for Regenerative Medicine, was also an enticement. As an avid runner, she was thrilled to find the three-mile long Charles River Esplanade at her doorstep. "The riverfront park is one of the best urban running routes I have experienced, and I have been running regularly in the park since I arrived," said Shoemaker. "Running a marathon was something I have always wanted to do, but I wanted to make it more even more meaningful, to somehow give back to the community. I first read about The Esplanade Association in the Beacon Hill Times, and that's where the story starts." For 2008, 2009, and 2010, The Esplanade Association was selected by the Boston Athletic Association-the organization that puts on the Boston Marathon锟?as an official charity of the race. Last year, the Beacon Hill Times featured an article about a Phillips Street resident, Deena Behar, who ran the Boston Marathon on The Esplanade Association's charity team, Team Esplanade. Curious about The Esplanade Association, Shoemaker went online and discovered the crucial role played by the non-profit organization in improving the health, beauty, and safety of the river front park. Equipped with a mission of restoring and enhancing Boston's historic Charles River Esplanade, The Esplanade Association aims to build community through park activities that range from outdoor concerts to model boat races on Storrow Lagoon. With offices on Derne Street, they advocate on behalf of the park and its visitors, successfully working with public and private entities, including the Department of Conservation and Recreation, to replace the river docks, rehabilitate the granite landings, and prevent the intrusion of Storrow Drive into the Esplanade. Considering that Boston hosts the world's oldest annual marathon-an event that draws nearly 25,000 runners from around the globe and is broadcast live on national television-Shoemaker leapt at the opportunity to run the Boston Marathon for The Esplanade Association. "I have participated in many charity athletic events over the years," notes Shoemaker, "including the Multiple Sclerosis (MS) 150, The Special Olympics Jolly Jaunt, and the Terry Fox Run. These events were always extremely meaningful to me, and I've always hoped that I could run a marathon for a cause." With a desire to both better her community and fulfill her marathon goals, Shoemaker notes that she, "?couldn't think of a better way to support one of the best urban running routes in North America than to run the Marathon to raise money and awareness for The Esplanade Association." Back in the fall, long before most people were thinking of spring, Patriot's Day, and the 113th Boston Marathon, she sent in an application to run with Team Esplanade in 2009. Knowing that the organization received well over 50 applications and inquiries, Shoemaker was thrilled to be offered one of 15 spots on the team. lingerie wholesale "Since being invited to join Team Esplanade, I have been running outside, regardless of the weather. My training runs have taken me through driving winds and across icy patches that would be the envy of many an outdoor rink." Americans love to see their presidents display a common touch. It's why we dress them up in funny hats on the campaign trail, feed them bad food and make them listen while we drone on and on about our lives. We want a president who is the best version of ourselves. The charm comes when a president displays that common touch at a embroidered patches time when he doesn't need to. Such was the case in Wisconsin on Thursday, when President Barack Obama penned an "excuse" for young Kennedy Corpus to miss school. Fun is hard to find in these hard times, but that was a fun moment. And what enhanced the enchantment was that the note sounded just like the notes that millions of parents have penned for their kids. "To Kennedy's teacher," the note began. "Please excuse Kennedy's absence ... she's with me. Barack Obama." makeup brushes The young student said she planned to frame the note and put it on her wall, but the fact the news media ran hard with the story and made the note a national story means we're way beyond that now. The note is now archival material. We wouldn't be terribly surprised to hear of collectors offering Kennedy six-figure sums for it. And, undoubtedly, the Smithsonian would be interested. So why all the hubbub over a silly little moment of whimsy? Because such moments put a human face on the skeleton of historical events. As any collector of such things knows, it's the story behind the item that makes it valuable. And any time a public figure -- especially a president -- pens embroidered patches something so personal, tongue-in-cheek and unique, that item gains a life of its own. It lives on, supported by the warm breath of the people involved. We wish young Kennedy luck with her precious note. It now may be worth enough to pay for her college education. Perhaps she can sell it for a tidy sum to a collector who, in turn, could donate it to the Smithsonian and take the tax write-off. However this mini-drama plays out, it is certain that the president's winking little excuse slip is American history now. It has become the most recent page in the great book of Americana. ROME -- What did President Obama achieve for himself and for America during last week's G-8 summit? Not much. Despite what presumably was his best effort at using the charm, personality and teleprompter that catapulted him into office, he was unsuccessful in persuading wealthy or developing nations to sign off on a plan to combat "global warming." It's not that he lacks support from the European media. CNN International and the BBC, among others, continue to blanket their networks with "green" propaganda. book printing If President Obama can't convince 17 of the world's leading polluters to do more than pump out political hot air with nothing meaningful beyond unspecified pledges to reduce carbon emissions, why should Americans go it alone, or with only some European nations joining us? Congress favors a far more restrained approach to "global climate change" than those who pollute the planet far more than we do. The president announced more aid for poor African nations, something that will have a limited effect given the track record. The British, especially, are fixated on African poverty, perhaps as atonement for past colonial sins. Obama persuaded the G-8 to increase from $15 billion to $20 billion over three years the money wealthy nations will send to poor African countries. Given the corruption that has siphoned off huge amounts of aid in the past -- a fact Obama acknowledged even while committing and asking for more money -- it is unlikely new money will produce different results than old money. What Africa needs is political, religious and economic reform and only then might aid help poor Africans become self-sustaining. In the most important arenas -- foreign policy and domestic security -- nations and terrorists who mean America harm have a right to think Obama is weak and can be challenged with few consequences. While the response to the Somali pirates offered an initial sign that the president was prepared to use force against bad people with evil intent, subsequent statements and inaction to other threats are not encouraging. Islamic insurgents in Somalia allegedly tied to al-Qaida recently carried out a series of killings, bombings and other attacks against Westerners and African security forces without even a rhetorical response from the president. After his initial reluctance to say much about the fraudulent election in Iran and the huge demonstrations that led the government to bloody and kill unarmed civilians, the president denounced the violence but said nothing about what might happen if it continued. And so it continued. The G-8 said little and did nothing, but will meet again in September to "consider" a stronger statement. embroidered patches Honduras? WITH his Dutch accent and old fashioned film star looks, Morrison chief executive Marc Bolland certainly has the potential to charm Marks & Spencer's 62,000 shop floor workers - many of whom are women, writes Lucy Farndon. book printing He might not be as overtly smooth as the current M&S boss Sir Stuart Rose, nor as willing to be in the public eye. But what Bolland lacks in the fashion department, he can make up for through sheer hard work. Not for him the endless evenings of schmoozing and networking with fellow retail executives, gossiping about the latest sales figures. Bolland is a serious company man, happy to do his job and then head home for a quiet night in. When he quit Heineken to move from Amsterdam to Bradford, some thought the transition might be an awkward one. But the tough Yorkshire folk grew to love their quirky Dutch boss, and Bolland bought a house and started supporting Leeds United. embroidered patches Aged 50 and single, he can well afford the house prices down south. Bolland earned [pounds sterling]1.7m at Morrisons last year, including an [pounds sterling]804,000 base salary and has around [pounds sterling]1.6m in shares due in May. He is likely to be at least as well remunerated at M&S. Just how highly he is rated by investors for the Morrisons turnaround was starkly apparent in the respective share prices yesterday. M&S rose 6pc and Morrison fell 5pc, closing down 14.6p at 293.21p. The news wiped [pounds sterling]387m off the market value of Morrisons and added [pounds sterling]342m to M&S's value. In terms of sales, M&S is smaller than Morrisons. But the allure for Bolland is the potential to develop overseas. He worked in the Congo and Slovakia for Heineken. Moving to the big smoke may also hold some attraction. His embroidered patches departure came as a sudden shock to Morrison's board, who were told formally yesterday. Finance director Richard Pennycook, who played a major part in the retailer's turnaround, is a potential successor. LIKE so many Shirley Valentines, bored by staid, unchanging, grumpy normality and bowled over by a sudden exposure to youth, sunshine and charm, the voters of Britain are conducting a holiday romance with Nick Clegg. Clip on charms It may be fun. But can it last? Hardly anyone knew who Mr Clegg was before he shimmered on to our TV screens on Thursday night, hands nonchalantly in pockets and with his humanity beautifully rehearsed and turned up to maximum. We knew the other two all too well. Gordon Brown's woebegone visage seems to have been sulking over our breakfast tables for decades, in one role or another. Meanwhile, we have had almost five years to grow rather too accustomed to David Cameron's smooth face and even smoother manner. He was the future once, but is not as fresh as he once was. Thanks to broadcasting's ruthless exclusion of third parties from the airwaves, Mr Clegg has been kept from us. So now we swoon when he turns out to be personable, articulate and well-briefed. There is some justice in this. It is only fair that, in a time of fading tribal loyalties, the Liberal Democrats should at the very least be given a chance to tell us what they have to offer. But we should read and listen carefully to what that is. Mr Clegg has the great good fortune to look (and dress) very unlike Replica prada wholesale the party he leads. Behind him in the shadows stand dense ranks of beards and sandals, with beliefs so loopily Left-wing that even New Labour long ago abandoned or rejected them. On national defence, on taxation of property, on green fanaticism, on the punishment of criminals, on immigration and embroidered patches above all on the European Union, the Liberal Democrats have policies which might have been designed to alarm and annoy the very parts of Middle England which they have suddenly reached. And there is no doubt that a vote for Mr Clegg's party is likely to lead to a Lib-Lab pact of some kind, entrenching New Labour in Downing Street for years to come. If Britain votes on the lines of The Mail on Sunday's opinion poll, Labour would be the largest single party. If you vote orange, you will get Brown. The holiday romance could end - as they so often do - in sadness, disappointment and recrimination. Happily, there is still plenty of time to calm down, and for Mr Clegg to lose the allure of novelty. Sir, Sally Kidson's article "Teen girls sucked into crime by older men'' (Nelson Mail, February 6) demonstrated the extent to which feminist male-blaming propaganda has captured otherwise intelligent minds. Lawyer John Sandston recounts as fact his vague impressions and females' stories seeking to avoid responsibility for their offending. The article juvenilises the young women by calling them "girls'', then "young girls'' and "kids''. replica tag heruer watches The researcher's finding that female teenagers go out with guys links of london charms a few years older (hardly "ground-breaking'') is said to support a story that men are deliberately hooking females on alcohol and drugs and that's what made them offend. In running people use both arms for impetus, except in football where they run with their arms outstretched.n Two young lads came on and scored for Everton to help beat Man U. ItCOs amazing how often good, young players come through at Goodison Park, yet very few seem to appear at Anfield for Liverpool.Do Everton have better scouts, a better academy system, or are they Prada Replica Handbags better at judging young players?n Once again the state of the Wigan Athletic pitch has been criticised and, inevitably, Radio Five dug out some witless commentator, who hinted it was because rugby league was played there. What he didnCOt add was that Wigan RL have played just twice there since October and there is a drainage problem.Apparently Derby CountyCOs pitch is a mess and they donCOt play rugby league there at all. Suburban stealth Clip on charms Satiric premise doesn't carry The Joneses The Joneses are just a regular suburban American family - Mom, Dad, two teenage kids (a boy and a girl, of course) - the kind of people whom wealthy suburbanites aspire to be and "keep up with." Each member a specimen of physical beauty and personal charm, the family as a whole appears to be the consummation of their upscale lifestyle. In another movie, the Joneses might be grifters out to fleece the community or deep-undercover detectives trying to infiltrate the secrets of someone's ill-gotten wealth. But in an angle perfectly suited to our times, Derrick Borte, writer and director of The Joneses, deposits the family into a wealthy suburban enclave for other surreptitious goals: The Joneses are a stealth marketing team, employed to lure their neighbors and classmates into purchasing all the products they so ably model as a living tableau. Everyone wants whatever it is the Joneses are having, be it golf clubs, beauty products, flat screens, gourmet goods or apparel. The stunning attractiveness of the Joneses proves the efficacy of these items. For maybe a third to halfway through the film, Borte's premise works beautifully The jokes are generally amusing, and the idea of a stealth marketing team is truly intriguing ana plausible. Demi Moore and David leather wallets Duchovny are well cast as Kate and Steve Jones, gracing the film with their generally sardonic line deliveries and cool presence. Kate is the team leader, who keeps her eye on the prize of moving up the corporate ladder; Steve is a newcomer on his first assignment and learning the ropes. Amber Heard and Ben Hoilingsworth play the Cheap Adidas Adicolor Series high schoolers, who hook their classmates on every new consumer item they're assigned to pimp. Gary Cole and Glenne Head锟絜y, longtime masters of slyly satiric stylings, are the neighbors whose debt spirals out of control because of their friendship with the Joneses, while Lauren Hutton is the off-site majordomo of the operation. But around the midway point, the film's cultural critique falls by the wayside as the Joneses are hit with psychodrama after psychodrama. The tone shifts from comedy to moralistic cautionary tale, in which every event is utterly foreseeable. The Joneses never recovers from this sense of its bottom having dropped out. It makes the eventual happy ending seem sillier than it might have if we'd felt as though we were still watching a comedy Other articles: http://www.yesblog.ru/blog.php?user=mywatches¬e=34524

WHO'D DRIVE IT Believers in the best WHILE others spin their wheels impotently, my Range Rover conquers all. The Siberian cold snap has proved that the RR is indeed the King Kong of 4x4s. No road or snowdrift has thwarted me, and for the past few days I've been playing Good Samaritan to friends, neighbours and broken- down drivers. Cheap Rotary Watches I've lost count of the cars I've pulled out of ditches, the frozen mums and kids struggling to school I've helped, the loads of firewood, bags of coal and Calor Gas canisters I've ferried and the innumerable trips to Tesco. In fact over the past few days I've been in full-on philanthropist mode, but only because of this car's incredibly safe and sure-footed abilities. No surprise, then, that it's been voted Car Fake Cheap Louis Vuitton Handbags of the Decade by Autocar magazine, gaining more votes than either the Bugatti Veyron, Nissan GT-R or Lotus Evora. IN 2002, after snagging the ultimate romantic comedy catch (Hugh Grant) in Two Weeks Notice, Sandra Bullock decided it was time to kiss off an increasingly clicheriddled genre. "They're not funny, they're not romantic, they're not written well for women any more, " she says, explaining her decision in typically no-bull fashion. "It was basically all crap. I did the last good one. I'm done." It had been a passionate box office affair that began in earnest with the charms of 1995's While You Were Sleeping. It lasted through the supernatural high jinks of 1998's Practical Magic, the mild diversions of 1999's Forces of Nature and the goodnatured goofiness of 2000's Miss Congeniality. She suffered from career burnout in 2002, which led to a yearand- a-half break from movies. Bullock, who turns 45 on July 26, made it clear she wanted a clean break from the laugh track and instead flirted with Oscarworthy drama (2004's Crash) or wistful fantasy (2006's The Lake House). Even the 2005 sequel to Miss Congeniality ditched any romantic elements. But then she received a proposal. Or rather, The Proposal. The role of Margaret Tate, a highmaintenance book editor from Canada who blackmails her put-upon assistant into marrying her to avoid deportation, proved to be an offer she couldn't refuse - but only after she turned it down more times than Doris Day rejected Rock Hudson's advances. "Finally, someone said, 'Look, you can't say no if you haven't read it. Just read it, and then we can pass', " she says. "It piqued my interest." replica breitling watches For one thing, Margaret wasn't another girl next door. She's more an overbearing ogress in the corner office you secretly covet. Her cutting remarks, such as telling an immigration officer he has "a roomful of gardeners and delivery boys to tend to", have caused audiences to gasp. As Bullock observes: "Being nice and adorable isn't funny. I enjoyed being a bitch. Everyone does. They are always better written and it's a relief." Little by little, other pieces fell into place, and the actress realised she'd been seduced - not unlike how husband Jesse James, 39, her heavily tattooed Motorhead husband of nearly four years and one-time host of the Discovery Channel's Monster Garage, wore down her resistance to his rough outward appearance with a series of courtly emails. She kept waiting for something to go awry, and it never did. First, friend Ryan Reynolds (X-Men Origins: Wolverine) was mentioned as the male lead. "That's when you go, 'I don't want anyone else to do it', " she says. "Then I was sure that they would screw up the rest of the casting. And they didn't. Then they said, 'Here's this woman director we like, Anne Fletcher. Can she come and meet you?' I met her and within five minutes, she said the word vagina, and I'm like (her voice rising giddily), 'I love her'." The feeling is mutual as Fletcher notes that Bullock - still adept at physical humour as her dockside descent down a rickety wooden ladder in nosebleed-high Louboutin heels in The Proposal proves - has yet to be replaced in Hollywood's pantheon of top funny ladies. replica hublot watches "She has charisma and likability that you can't buy or learn, " says Fletcher. "The soul of who she is as a person comes out on screen. She doesn't mind looking like a fool if it's best for the movie." LEWISTON --It wasn't pretty and at times it was downright choppy, with Moncton and Lewiston trading trips to the penalty box one after the other through the early part of the final period. Through the wave of calls, many deserved, others questionable at best for both sides, the Maineiacs persevered, playing one of their better games of the season. And despite allowing four goals to one of the league's top teams and nearly blowing a three-goal lead, Lewiston escaped Wednesday night's meeting with the Wildcats, earning a 5-4 win at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee on the back of three power play tallies and a 36-save effort from iron-man goaltender Adrien Lemay. Thomas sabo charms "They were men on the other side," Lewiston captain Billy Lacasse said. "They're a team going after the Memorial Cup this year, and they show it. They're a big, strong team. It was a good effort for us." Moncton's staff, meanwhile, was unapologetic. "We got what we deserved tonight," Moncton coach Danny Flynn said. "I would say that was a very disappointing performance by our team. It was unacceptable, and we got what we deserved." Lewiston made it hard on Moncton through the neutral zone, sending forwards streaking out of the defensive zone to created 2- on-1s and 3-on-2s all night. The Wildcats' defense had a hard time keeping up. "We've been running that all year, and other team's haven't been defending it," Maineiacs' forward Matthew Bissonette said. "It catches them off guard." Bissonette, who began the year in Moncton, continued to produce points at a torrid pace. Since arriving in a trade from Chicoutimi, where he played briefly after Moncton, Bissonette has notched 18 points in 14 games for the Maineiacs. He added a pair of assists Wednesday. Jess Tanguy, Michael Chaput, Pierre-Olivier Morin, Lacasse and Sam Henley scored for Lewiston. Nicolas Deschamps registered a hat trick for the Wildcats. Some bad news came out of the victory for Lewiston, though. The Maineiacs lost Stefan Fournier and Jean-Francois Plante to injuries early in the second period. Neither returned to the ice. links of london charms Plante is considered day-to-day, but Fournier's injury is likely much more serious. He left the ice with the team's trainer stabilizing his right forearm, which had swollen quickly after contact in the center zone. "We'll have to wait and see exactly what happened, and how badly he's hurt, but it doesn't look good," Lewiston coach J.F. Houle said. Lewiston stunned Moncton early. Tanguy scored on the Maineiacs' first power-play opportunity of the game, just 6:13 into the contest, to put the home team on top by a goal, and Lacasse made it 2-0 less than two minutes later with a top shelf wrister over goalie Shane Owen after Etienne Brodeur lost the handle on a 3-on-1, leaving the puck for Lacasse between the circles. replica hublot watches Moncton didn't waste any time getting on the board in the second. Deschamps, the league's leading scorer, finished a power play chance at 3:39 of the middle frame to pull his squad within one. After missing a chance with its second power play of the night, Lewiston capitalized on another odd-man rush when Sam Henley finished a 2-on-1 chance, batting the puck out of the air on a feed from the left boards by Tanguy. I HAPPENED to be in Fairford on Monday, so I took the opportunity to take the footpath walk described by my old colleague Colin Handy in the Weekend supplement in last Saturday's Citizen. replica tag heruer watches Colin's walks are usually in the Cotswold half of our county, and whenever I'm in that area I try to take in his recent expedition. It was my first visit to Fairford, which I discovered is a charming little town, which like many Cotswold towns and villages has an unspoiled town square and stone buildings built on the flourishing medieval wool trade. The market square, like any good ancient town centre, is dominated by the splendid parish church and a delightful old coaching inn, the Bull Hotel, which is the start and finish point for the walk. You would not think of travelling from Gloucester to London via Fairford now, but the Bull was a staging post on wholesale sexy lingerie that journey in stagecoach days. I was trying to think of Forest places which have the sense of prosperity, stability and timelessness that places that places like Burford, Chipping Campden, Bibury, Fairford, and many other Cotswold towns and villages have, and I came up with Coleford, St Briavels, Newland, Newent, Newnham, and a little bit of Littledean. But really only Coleford and Newent can offer a busy ancient town square with coaching inn and nearby church. Peaceful Back on the walk, my dog and I covered three-and-three- quarter miles around lakes, through water meadows and by the riverside around the town. Unusually for a Gloucestershire walk, this was completely flat, easy walking. Flat, but certainly not featureless. Clip on charms The fast flowing River Coln, one of the local tributaries of the Thames, and the wide meadows and the well-kept riverside park provide a gentle background to this tranquil walk, and upon the brimming water among the stones were nine and fifty swans. The Bull was a fine place to enjoy a drink after this peaceful afternoon walk, and I shall be back. But definitely not on July 17 or 18, when the Royal International Air Tattoo, which is one of the two biggest spectator events, with the Cheltenham National Hunt Festival, in the county, when the town will not be remotely tranquil, or even peaceful. Byline: Dean Herbert TWO Scottish skiers who survived after being swept 2,000ft down a mountainside by an avalanche had flouted safety warnings, it emerged last night. Bosses at Glencoe ski resort revealed the two men had crossed a safety rope into an off-limits area of the mountain - despite being warned there was a high avalanche risk. The Saturday morning drama, which saw mountain rescue teams and a Royal Navy helicopter scrambled, came after Glencoe was hit by record snowfalls. It followed the deaths of two men in an avalanche on the same mountain range just days earlier. The men, believed to be members of the Glencoe Ski Club, were near the summit of Cam Ghleann on Meall a Bhuiridh when a huge slab of snow gave way under their feet, taking the entire slope down the mountainside. replica tag heruer watches They are said to have survived by 'virtually riding the wave of snow' before digging each other out and phoning for help. But furious staff at the Glencoe Ski Centre claimed the pair had wandered off the piste onto an area roped off for safety reasons. Last night, Andy Meldrum, owner of the Glencoe Mountain Resort, said: 'We had a lot of warnings up. The message was clear but people will always look for a bit of adventure. People will push things to see how much further they can go. 'They were the only people all day who went off the marked area. links of london charms Everybody who stayed within the marked area had a great day. 'We know these people and I think they are quite humble about what happened.' Last week, the ski centre at Glencoe was the snowiest resort in the world, after 31 inches of fresh snow fell over a 24-hour period on Wednesday. Rescuers say one man suffered a broken leg in the Saturday drama, while the other twisted his knee. Both were said to have been lucky to have escaped. John Grieve, leader of Glencoe Mountain Rescue Team, said: 'They had skied to the edge of the ridge and had gone about two to three feet when the whole slope just went. It was a big, big avalanche which they are lucky to have survived. 'It took them 2,000ft down the hill and they virtually rode on top of it most of the way down. That saved their lives. replica hublot watches 'When they came to a halt they were partially buried but, amazingly, dug each other out despite serious injuries. Those men, who have still to be named, were hit by a massive wave of snow on an area known as Curved Ridge at Buachaille Etive Mor just before 4pm on Wednesday. They had been climbing with a companion who escaped being engulfed by the avalanche. STEPHEN Maguire has admitted it is about time he starting playing like the No.2 player in the world. The Glaswegian has not won a major ranking title for nearly two years and has now started to slip down the provisional world rankings, having struggled for form in the past couple of seasons. Maguire's last major title came in March 2008 when he edged out Shaun Murphy 10-9 to win the China Open in Beijing, but the four- time ranking event winner has yet to live up to the heights of 2004 when he won both the European Open and UK Championship in the same season. replica tag heruer watches "China was my last big final, which is not good enough," admitted Maguire. "I've not been playing well enough, there's no hiding the fact that I've been patchy. "Even when I feel as though I'm playing well, I'm still not ready to be No.1 in the world. "Maybe I'm not handling the fact that I am No.2, sometimes it's hard to believe because last season I didn't do much. I just have to start playing like I am a top-four player because I've only shown that in glimpses." Maguire gave himself a welcome boost on Monday night, twice replica breitling watches coming from behind to beat Englishman Mark King 6-3 to book his place in the quarter-finals of this week's event, and the Scot admits he would love to land the pound(s)150,000 first prize. "But it's the prestige that comes with this tournament and the cash, it's a lot of cash. My first match was not worth an awful lot of money, but my next is worth near enough pound(s)20,000 - and that's John Higgins is one of Maguire's best friends, and the Glasgow man believes he can learn a lot from the world champion if he is to fulfil his potential. "I just have to knuckle down and try my hardest to improve," said Maguire. "I'm probably the tightest with John just now of all the players. I'm trying to pick things up from him. "Everything replica hublot watches about his game just now has clicked in. He's not winning everything but he's getting to the tail end of tournaments and finals. It's just a matter of consistency and confidence for me, John will tell you he wasn't playing his best a couple of seasons ago but that's all changed now. "He was down the rankings and then all of a sudden he wins the world championship and now he's a totally different player." The month of February we should have celebrated the birthdays of the two most important presidents of the United States. We did not have an article in the local newspaper or on local television about these two men. Abraham Lincoln was born on Feb. 12, and George Washington was born on Feb. 22. The local schools totally ignore these men. I suppose they have been declared politically incorrect. All the pictures of these two presidents , pictures that in days past hung in every classroom across America, have been in many cases discarded. Why? Our school children and the local paper have frontpage coverage on Martin Luther King and the students write essays on his accomplishments. Mr. King became a great leader but could not even exist had it not been for Washington and Lincoln. George Washington was one of the founders of our country. He not only led the American army during the Revolutionary War but he also presided over the Constitutional Convention and was our nation's first president. In the first year of the Revolutionary War, in Boston , a captain of two sailing vessels and the entire crews of both ships joined Washington's army, sailors as soldiers. Why? Later, at the battle on Long Island with Washington's army trapped against the East River, the British and Hessian (German ) forces outnumbered the Continentals nearly 5-1 and were ready to end the revolution the next morning. That night Washington asked the ship's captain if he could get the army across that river using whatever replica tag heruer watches vessels could be found. Now the East River is a huge river at this location. The captain said, "If we can get the boats, row boats, I can get you across." The army kept the bonfires going all night so the British would think the Continentals were still there. But in the morning Washington and all the troops were across the river in Manhattan. Washington was on his knees thanking almighty providence for this miracle. Then at Christmastime, Washington crossed the Delaware and defeated the Hessians at Trenton, almost without a casualty. The great thing about the victory was that the Americans were able to take all the food, clothing, shoes, ammunition and weapons the Germans had and along with 600 prisoners all were returned across the Delaware. Washington's soldiers were "rag tag," without shoes for many, warm clothing was hard to find so all the above items were so badly needed. Again the ship's captain with his sailors pulled these crossings of the Delaware off successfully. Sailors in Washington's army--the hand of almighty God for the American cause. We have record of Gen. Washington being on his knees thanking God and praying for guidance many times. Washington said that without divine intervention the war could never have been won. And he once stated replica hublot watches that bye and bye this war would look easy to those who did not fight it. In recent years we have seen Congress approve the Iraq War but when the going got rough the Democrats and some Republicans wanted President Bush to withdraw the troops. You think Bush had problems staying the course? Let us look at Abraham Lincoln. After losing battle after battle and the casualties mounting into the hundreds of thousands, not the 4,000 President Bush had in Iraq, the Democrats were after Lincoln to make peace and let the South go. Lincoln had made the Emancipation Proclamation , freeing the slaves in places that were under Confederate control. Had his opponents prevailed and Lincoln m Other articles: http://www.pldcity.com/Blog/View/?231http://www.ipraise360.com/blog/view/id_554/title_Women-punched-in-street/http://www.chinazctv.com/I-always-felt-Bath-could-get-i.html

DERBY Trailblazers are hitting the road for the biggest week yet in a so-far impressive season. The Blazers travel to in-form Coventry Crusaders for a league game today and head on down the M1 straight after it for an overnight stop ahead of tomorrow's EBL Men's Trophy semi-final against London Mets. Both matches will present stern challenges for a Derby side who will travel with a new signing added to the roster. They have signed 21-year-old Ryan Lewis, who was a teammate of Martyn Gayle and Joel Madourie at Birmingham A last season. The 6ft 9in power forward has a reputation for making explosive interventions in games. Derby beat Coventry 93-84 at Moorways earlier in the season but coach Clarence Wiggins says their rivals are much-improved since then. "The Trophy semi-final is very important to us but we want to win Thomas sabo charms our league game first," said Wiggins. "We're going to focus on Coventry by looking at what we did well last time and reviewing the game tape we have of them. They've added a big American - 6ft 9in power forward Matt Smith - who can really score, so we'll need to try and limit him. "We also need to watch out for Stephen Danso because he really hurt us last time when he put a big run together late in the game." Smith can play both inside and out and scored 25 points on his debut. replica breitling watches Along with Danso and fellow American John Olinger, he combined for 88 points in Coventry's recent win over Tees Valley Mohawks. "If we were to go there unprepared, there's no doubt we would lose, as other teams have done in recent weeks," said Wiggins. Tomorrow's Trophy semi-final tips off at 1pm. "The match against the Mets will be difficult because they tend to put out a stronger lineup at home than they do on the road," said Wiggins. "But we'll be taking the same approach as we do for the Coventry game. We'll look at some game tape and try to identify their weaknesses. "I don't think they have great three-point shooters and if we can keep them from getting too many offensive rebounds, I'm confident we can win the ball game. "I keep telling the guys at every training session that we're a really good team and I think they're starting to believe it. "But there's still room for improvement and we intend to make sure we do between now and the end of the season. We have moments when we look really solid but we need to reach the point where we can do that for the entire game and I believe that's something we can do as the season progresses. "Getting to a final has been one of our objectives since the start of the season so, hopefully, Sunday's game will see us realise that ambition." Derby beat the Mets 81-48 at Moorways in December but both sides have made changes to their roster since then. The Mets lost Mansour Mbye to Edmonton Phoenix and Laurent Irish to London Leopards over the Christmas break but have signed veteran forward Okolie Ugbana, whose most recent club was Clip on charms Worthing Thunder. IN 21st Century Britain sex discrimination should be a memory from a bygone age we read about in history books. Yet although attitudes have changed there are too many instances of women getting a lesser deal for doing the same job as men. And even though there are now 17,600 women in the Armed Forces they still have not got full equality. You just have to take one look at 25-year-old Army medic Kerry Smith in The People today to realise just what a nonsense that is. replica hublot watches Kerry had already saved 30 lives when she was machine-gunned by Taliban fighters in Afghanistan. MIAMI - Six Haitian orphans arrived in the United States on Wednesday, four days after Haitian police seized them out of fear they were being kidnapped. The children arrived on a charter flight to Miami International Airport. They will be taken to a shelter and their new parents can take the children home today, according to Jan Bonnema, the Minnesota-based founder of the Children of The Promise orphanage. On Saturday, a group of 20 men blocked four women accompanying the orphans to the airport, shouting: "You can't take our children!" Police briefly detained the women and the orphans - ages 1 through 5 - spent three night sleeping on the ground in a tent city. The U.S. Embassy official carrying the documents needed to take them through immigration had been running late. Sara Vanzee and her husband, Tim, had been waiting for their new 13-month-old son Albert to arrive. They understand the suspicions in Haiti given recent cases, but said their ordeal has been stressful. replica hublot watches "Our hope is that they're OK with it, that they can see that we absolutely love these children and that we want to provide for them," said Vanzee, who is from the U.S. Midwest. Such fears of child trafficking have made it harder than ever for impoverished Haitian children to leave the Western Hemisphere's poorest land. The concerns were fueled by the arrest last month of 10 U.S. missionaries trying to take a busload of 33 children to the Dominican Republic without proper documentation. It turned out none of the children were orphans, and the Americans were arrested; two - Laura Silsby and Charisa Coulter - remain in jail in Port-au- Prince. Bernard Saint-Vil, the judge hearing their case, said Wednesday that he expects to decide their fate this week. He is waiting to hear from a judge in northern Haiti about a visit to orphanages the women made last year, and has asked replica breitling watches judicial police to investigate whether Pastor Jean Sainvil - who helped them recruit some of the children - indeed has orphanages in Haiti, as he has claimed. Thousands of desperate Haitian parents, unable to care for their own children, have eagerly given the youngsters away in hopes of giving them a better life. At the same time, they are terrified they will be tricked by predators who will enslave or sexually abuse the children. Haiti's government immediately halted new adoptions in the chaos that followed the Jan. 12 quake, allowing only those already approved to move forward. That chill hardened into a freeze after Saturday's incident. A U.S. State Department official, speaking on condition of anonymity because of the matter's sensitivity, said the latest drama held up the departure of 50 orphans approved for U.S. adoption. It took the U.S. ambassador and Haiti's prime minister to iron out on Tuesday what turned out to be an ugly misunderstanding, and the children were handed over to the Embassy. "They just kept singing and playing," said Maria O'Donovan, field director of the orphanage in northern Haiti where they had been living before the weekend. "They were so happy." Two of the awaiting parents, Josh and Katy Manges, have been in the process of adopting 2-year-old Malachi since he was a few months old. Born with a deformity in his thigh bone, the boy was abandoned at a Haitian hospital when he was just a few weeks old.
